LottoWhat changed in 6/58Jackpot, odds & prizes

From 21 Sep 2025, Lotto expanded from 6/52 to 6/58. This makes jackpots harder but bigger, and shifts more prize money to small wins.

What does "1 in 9.61" mean?

Any prize odds means the chance of winning something, even a very small prize.

  • Old Lotto (6/52): On average, only 1 ticket in 38 won a prize.
  • New Lotto (6/58): Now about 1 ticket in 10 wins something.

Example for players

Imagine 10 friends each buy 1 Lotto ticket:

  • In the old system (6/52) β†’ chances were high that none of you would win.
  • In the new system (6/58) β†’ about 1 of the 10 will usually win something (often a small prize).

This happens because:

  • Small tiers like 3 Numbers and 2 + Bonusball now share more of the prize pool.
  • That means many more people get wins β€” but usually small (ticket-value or less).
  • The jackpot and higher tiers are harder to hit, which funds these extra small wins.

PBPowerball – How to read the oddsPlayer-friendly explainer

Powerball is 5/50 plus Powerball. From 1 June 2026 the Powerball pool is 1–16 (was 1–20 under Ithuba). The jackpot requires matching all 5 main numbers plus Powerball. "Any prize odds" combine all tiers (from "Only the Powerball" up to jackpot), so they're much better than jackpot odds β€” but most of those wins are small.

  • Jackpot odds are very long β€” that's what creates big rollovers.
  • Lower tiers (like "Only the Powerball", "1 Correct Number plus Powerball") win more often but pay small amounts.
  • Think of Powerball as: many small wins, rare big wins.

Daily Lotto is 5/36. From 1 June 2026, Daily Lotto Plus is discontinued β€” only the main Daily Lotto game remains. Because there are fewer numbers and daily draws, the top tier is hit more often than Lotto/Powerball β€” prizes roll less and tend to be smaller, but "any prize" is much more achievable.

  • Jackpot odds are far better than Lotto/Powerball, but the pot is smaller.
  • Lower tiers (3 or 2 matches) happen frequently β€” many small wins.
  • If you prefer frequent small wins over big rollovers, Daily Lotto is closer to that profile.

MP1 (Multi-Play)—Extra number and extra rows: Daily 6→6 rows · Lotto 7→7 rows · PB 6 mains→6 rows (6× / 7× price)

MP1Multi-Play (MP1)Why payouts can multiply

From 1 June 2026, Sizekhaya offers MP1 on Daily Lotto, Lotto, and Powerball. MP1 is not just one extra number β€” it automatically gives you extra rows (lines) on the same board. You still pick numbers once on your slip, but the operator plays every combination row and checks each row separately. Winning rows are paid and added together, which is why your payout can be higher than a single match suggests.

Daily Lotto

  • MP1: 6 numbers (1 extra)

Lotto

Per game β€” in plain language

  • Daily Lotto MP1: You choose 6 numbers instead of 5. That creates 6 separate 5-number rows (each row drops a different one of your six). Price is 6Γ— a normal Daily board.
  • Lotto MP1: You choose 7 numbers instead of 6. That creates 7 separate 6-number rows. Price is 7Γ— a normal Lotto board. Bonus-ball rules apply per row.
  • Powerball MP1: You choose 6 main numbers plus your Powerball instead of 5 mains. That creates 6 separate rows of 5 mains + your Powerball. Price is 6Γ— a normal Powerball board.

Worked example β€” Daily Lotto MP1 (all 6 rows)

Draw: 1 June 2026  |  Winning numbers: 04 Β· 05 Β· 23 Β· 29 Β· 32  |  Your 6 numbers: 04 Β· 22 Β· 23 Β· 28 Β· 34 Β· 36  |  Ticket price: R18.00 (6 rows Γ— R3.00)

The operator does not check all 6 numbers as one row. It plays 6 rows of 5 β€” each row leaves out one of your six picks:

Row Left out 5 numbers in row Matched Result
10422 Β· 23 Β· 28 Β· 34 Β· 3623No win
22204 Β· 23 Β· 28 Β· 34 Β· 3604 & 23R4.90
32304 Β· 22 Β· 28 Β· 34 Β· 3604No win
42804 Β· 22 Β· 23 Β· 34 Β· 3604 & 23R4.90
53404 Β· 22 Β· 23 Β· 28 Β· 3604 & 23R4.90
63604 Β· 22 Β· 23 Β· 28 Β· 3404 & 23R4.90

4 winning rows Γ— R4.90 = R19.60 β€” not R4.90 for a single row.

On iLotto, MP1 results show every row, which number was left out, matches per row, and the combined total. Tick MP1 on the checker (or scan a ticket with the extra number) and use the same draw date as on your slip.
